"As from next summer a record number of 13 direct transatlantic services will be offered by a choice of foreign carriers: Air Canada (Montreal), Air Transat (Montreal), American Airlines (Chicago, New York JFK), Continental Airlines (Newark), Delta Air Lines (Atlanta, New York JFK), Jet Airways (New York JFK, Newark, Toronto), United Airlines (Chicago, Washington) and US Airways (Philadelphia). All North American based airlines who offer intercontinental operations, offer direct services at Brussels Airport, an almost unique situation in Europe.
United Airlines starts direct daily flight operations between Brussels and Chicago. This new initiative is United Airlines' second daily transatlantic destination from Brussels, adding to the daily Brussels-Washington route that exists since many years. Since the start of the current winter season, United Airlines already offers a daily Brussels-London-Chicago flight. This flight with a stopover in London Heathrow will be replaced by a nonstop service as from the summer season. United Airlines is a member of Star Alliance. Brussels Airport will become a member of this alliance on December 9. This will allow both airlines to offer a seamless service on their respective North American and European/African networks. Recently Air Canada, also a member of Star Alliance announced the introduction of direct daily flights between Brussels and Montreal during the next summer season. This daily Brussels-Montreal also connects perfectly to Brussels Airlines hub operation at Brussels Airport. This news is applauded by Brussels Airport. "The extra daily flight to Chicago will be welcome to business passengers and holiday travelers alike", said Jos Stroobants, Director Aviation Development.
